Product review
SpyCloud account takeover prevention review
SpyCloud addresses account takeover upstream by identifying exposed credentials and identity artifacts in recaptured breach, malware and phishing data. It complements live login-risk assessment by identifying accounts that need remediation before an observed abusive login.

Strengths
- Exposure evidence adds a different view from request-level bot or login-risk analysis.
- Consumer ATO documentation covers credential reuse and replay, APIs and policy-driven responses.
- Phishing intelligence connects exposed credentials, sessions and other identity artifacts with remediation workflows.
Limitations
- Choose the specific consumer, employee or phishing-exposure product; their deployment scope and terms differ.
- A password change does not by itself establish that all stolen sessions and refresh tokens were revoked. Verify each connected system and supported action.
Who it fits
Workforce or consumer-identity teams whose missing capability is compromised-identity exposure and remediation. Select the correct population and integrations, then verify the exact credential and session-artifact coverage.
Use the alternatives by operating need to compare authentication, device/account risk, bot defense and identity exposure.
What the score means
The 7.6 out of 10 score is an editorial assessment under the same 40-criterion, seven-category framework. It weighs takeover detection, signal depth, real-time response, integration, evidence, customer friction and lifecycle fit.
Editor’s Choice is a separate recommendation. Read all criteria and relative weights and evaluate the entitled product on the product flow you protect.
How to evaluate it
Ask for a scoped demonstration using identities you are authorized to evaluate. Check exposure freshness, artifact types, match quality, remediation permissions and the confirmation that password resets and supported session/token actions completed.
Sales-assisted exposure demonstration
Use the official demo route and confirm whether consumer or workforce identity is in scope. Do not treat a public exposure lookup as a free production ATO API.

FAQ
Is exposure monitoring the same as device-risk scoring?
No. Exposure monitoring identifies compromised credentials or identity artifacts in recaptured data. Device and account-risk checks assess activity reaching your application. They can address different stages of the same takeover.
Does a password reset invalidate a stolen session?
That depends on the identity provider and application. SpyCloud’s phishing guidance separates credentials, cookies, refresh tokens and grants; verify the supported remediation for each artifact.
